Disaster Recovery from a Library Perspective

The HBCU Library Alliance is based in the southeast and this year we've had our fill of hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding, along with a summer of sweltering heat and humidity. Therefore, we thought it apropos to devote some attention to library disaster recovery policies.

In light of the havoc Hurricane Katrina has wreaked along the gulf coast, of particular interest are those libraries dealing with water damage from flooding, heat, and high temperatures. HBCUs in the areas have been affected and the potential for damage and loss of library materials, is a reality.

How about it...care to share? What steps do you take to mitigate damage and recover functioning after a blow from mother nature? Do tell...
